How We Should Use the Internet Correctly

Hi there! My name is Emma, and I'm 10 years old. I love using the internet for fun, learning new things, and staying in touch with my friends and family. But I've also learned that there are some important rules we need to follow when we go online. The internet can be an awesome place, but it can also be kinda scary if we're not careful!

The first rule is to always ask your parents or a trusted adult for permission before going online. They can help make sure you only visit websites that are safe and appropriate for kids. My parents have installed something called \"parental controls\" on our devices, which blocks me from accessing any sketchy sites. I always check with them first if I want to try a new game, video channel, or app.

It's also really important to keep your personal information private online. That means never sharing things like your full name, home address, phone number, or school name with people you don't know in real life. Strangers online might seem friendly, but you can never really be sure who they are or what

their intentions are. I never accept friend requests or chat invitations from anyone I'm not already friends with offline. Speaking of strangers, you should never arrange to meet up with someone you only know from the internet! Even if they seem nice, it's just way too risky. There are people out there who might try to trick or hurt kids, so it's better to be safe than sorry. My parents have taught me that if anyone I've met online ever suggests meeting up, I should tell them or another trusted adult immediately.

We also have to be really careful about what kinds of photos, videos, or personal information we share online, even with our real-life friends. Once something is posted on the internet, it can be almost impossible to delete it completely and there's no way to control where it might end up or who might see it. I always ask my parents before sharing any pictures or videos of myself or other people.

It's a good idea to limit how much time we spend staring at screens, too. There are so many fun things to do offline - play outside, read books, do arts and crafts, play sports, hang out with friends in real life. If I'm online for too many hours in a row, my eyes get sore and my brain feels kinda fried. My parents enforce

reasonable time limits for things like gaming, watching videos, and social media.

We also have to be really careful about believing everything we read or see online. There are a lot of fake news stories, misleading information, and hoaxes floating around out there. I always triple-check information from reliable, fact-based sources before believing it or sharing it with others. If I'm not sure whether something is true or not, I ask my teacher or parents to help me verify it.

Finally, if anything upsetting or inappropriate ever does pop up on your screen, you should tell a trusted adult right away. Don't feel embarrassed - it's not your fault if you stumble across something by accident. The important thing is to report it so it can be addressed properly. My parents have taught me that keeping secrets online is never a good idea.

There's no doubt that the internet connects us to an amazing world of knowledge, creativity, and opportunities for learning and fun. But we have to know how to use it responsibly to stay safe. By following these rules and listening to trusted adults, we can make the most of the internet while avoiding the icky side of it. Stay smart and stay safe out there!
